The first test of JMI's "Shopper Tracking SystemE(STS) which uses wi-fi technology to monitor the traffic patterns in stores was conducted this week at a drug store in Ibaraki prefecture.

During the test the tracking system was set up and wi-fi tags were used to monitor the movements of participating respondents. The test demonstrated the accuracy of the system and also generated data that will be used to develop the analysis software for the STS.

STS will be used to analyze typical navigation paths and traffic densities at various locations in the store. Shopper Tracking System is due for launch in July 2006.
